The main objective is to provide **environmental**, **economic** or **social benefits** at community level and are an important step on the road to energy transition. The transposition of the **EU Directive 2018/2001 RED2**, (with the "RED II Directive", and more precisely the D. Lgs. 8th November 2021, n. 19), provides **Local Administrators**, **Businesses** and **Citizens** a new tool to promote energy development, economic and social of the territory: "Renewable Energy Communities" (Resolution 318/2020/R/EEL of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment). **Individuals**, **small and medium-sized enterprises** (SMEs), **local authorities**, **municipalities**, **research and training institutions**, **religious institutions**, **third sector entities**, **associations** can join and form an energy community. Everyone is a member or shareholder, is a final customer owner of a utility, an energy bill and a POD code. For private companies, participation in the energy community should not be the main commercial and/or industrial activity. All members of the renewable energy community must be connected to connection points located on electricity networks underlying the same primary cabin. The Energy Community feeds the users of its members through one or more renewable energy production plants, installed near the same users that depend on its/their operation. Installations may be new or existing, upgraded or adapted, owned by one or more members of the energy community or third parties. It is essential, however, that the energy community has the full availability of use and control of the same. **Renewable installations established before 15 December 2021 may be included provided that they do not exceed 30% of the total power of the energy community.** With the current regulatory framework all **Utilities** (Consumers) and **Producers** (Plants), to enter the same Energy Community, **must be connected to the same Transformer Cabin Medium Voltage/ Low Voltage** (MT/ BT). With the RED II Decree, in force since 15 December 2021, the perimeter of the Energy Community is extended to utilities connected to the same Primary High Voltage/ Medium Voltage (AT/ MT).
